Visit “Tree of Life” in Raleigh for Heartfelt Remembrance
On Friday, December 3, 2010, the Governor’s Highway Safety Program (GHSP) presented the “Tree of Life,” a lighted memorial to those who lost their lives in North Carolina traffic wrecks in 2009.
The “Tree of Life” is an evergreen decorated with 1,346 light—one light for each life snuffed out on the road. There are two different color lights: 952 white lights representing traffic fatalities, and 394 red lights representing lives lost to alcohol-related crashes. (To save you from doing the math, the alcohol-related fatalities represent nearly 30% of all traffic deaths.)
The “Tree of Life” will remain on display at the North Carolina State Capitol through January 3, 2011.
