Capital Area Ride for Safety (CARS) Brings North Carolina Residents Together to Raise Bicycle and Vehicle Safety Awareness

More than 200 bicyclists came together over the weekend to participate in the first Capital Area Ride for Safety (CARS). The CARS event was created to help make a positive impact on the community by raising awareness about proper bicycle and driver safety. The organizers hope that bringing attention to this serious safety issue will go a long way towards reducing the number of bicycle and vehicle accidents statewide. In light of the recent tragedies involving cyclists being hit by vehicles in the Piedmont Triad area, this is a truly important mission.

This past Sunday, 9/25, cyclists completed a 28-mile ride, with an hour rest in the middle of the race to listen to local cycling advocates speak about the dangers associated with biking on roadways. This event aimed to promote constructive dialogue and encourage positive relationships between drivers and bicyclists. By simply raising awareness of proper bicycle and driving etiquette, we can all do our part to help reduce the total number of injuries and fatalities on North Carolina roads and highways.
