How to Identify If a Loved One Is Being Abused or Neglected in a Nursing Home

October 16th, 2017

Did you know that there are nearly 2 million Americans living in elder care facilities? Residents of nursing homes and their families expect that they’ll receive quality care, a safe environment, and will be treated with respect. But each year thousands of residents are victims of abuse and neglect in facilities across the nation including right here in North Carolina.

There are several critical warning signs to look for in abuse victims including bruises, broken bones, bed sores, sudden or excessive weight loss, and unexplained death. There are many nursing homes that work hard to provide a safe, caring and loving environment. But sadly, there are many others that just do not provide a safe, caring and loving environment.

Make sure that you do a lot of investigating before you choose an elder care facility for your loved ones. As we continue to see an increase in the elderly population, more and more people will become victim to abuse and neglect in nursing homes. These acts are traumatizing to the victims and their families. The perpetrators of these horrendous acts need to be stopped.
