North Carolina Landowners Facing Eminent Domain Stage a Protest

Most people who own property assume they will have the right to dictate how the land is used. But sometimes, government entities and even private businesses can use North Carolina’s eminent domain laws to condemn property for certain uses.

The North Carolina land condemnation process has already been put into motion to take swaths of property across Johnston County, and many property owners are still standing up in protest. Dominion, an energy company, is taking the land to construct the 550-mile Atlantic Coast Pipeline to transport natural gas across the region.

According to The News & Observer, property owners object to the pipeline because they see it as unnecessary and as a threat to the local environment and farming communities. The group gathered on Aug. 18 to join arms as a symbol of their solidarity against the project. They have also utilized the hashtag #HandsAcrossOurLand to get their message across on different social media platforms.

Knowing your rights is essential if you’re facing eminent domain or restrictions on the use of your land. Our North Carolina land condemnation lawyers are available to answer your questions anytime by calling (866) 745-7446.
