North Carolina Motorcycle Accident Lawyers Talk Safety As Bike Season Begins

Motorcycle season is in full swing in North Carolina. And as more motorcycles make their way onto the road, our North Carolina motorcycle accident lawyers at HensonFuerst would like to remind citizens of an increased risk of crashes.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that there were 4,270 North Carolina motorcycle accidents in 2012. Of those collisions, 3,472 resulted in injuries and another 198 were fatal.

To help prevent North Carolina motorcycle accidents, Gov. McCrory declared Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month this May. The Asheville Citizen-Times says a local group has sponsored 10 billboards promoting motorcycle safety, and motorcycle awareness rides and events are scheduled across the state throughout the month.

At HensonFuerst, we promote motorcycle safety through our RideSafe program. If you’d like to do your part to promote motorcycle awareness and prevent accidents though, there are several steps you can take:

  • Look Twice– All drivers should look twice in all directions before making maneuvers in traffic. Doing so will help to ensure you did not miss an oncoming vehicle in a blind spot.
  • Drive Defensively– When in traffic, it’s best to assume that other motorists cannot see you and maneuver your vehicle accordingly.
  • Obey All Traffic Laws– Adhere to all signs and lights, watch your speed, and by all means, never drink and drive.
  • Use Safety Equipment– Motorcyclists should always wear a helmet and passengers of vehicles should always buckle up.

We hope these tips help keep you and your loved ones safe during motorcycle season!
