Cary Man Injured By Escalator Fall

August 9, 2012

A Cary, North Carolina, resident was almost killed recently after falling off an escalator at an airport. According to the Fort Bragg Patch, he was saved only by the quick action of an onlooker and a stroke of good luck.

Several weeks ago, while traveling in the O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, the 82-year-old victim’s bag became caught while traveling along an escalator. The snag caused the man to fall down the mechanized stairway, shredding skin off of his arm the entire way down. The victim stated, “I was bleeding like a stuffed pig. I had a puddle (of blood) between my feet and my shirt was saturated.”

Luckily though, a man who happened to be in the medical supply business and was carrying supplies to show potential buyers at a meeting later that day was able to offer assistance and stop the profuse bleeding until paramedics could arrive.

The victim was taken to a local medical center so be treated for the severe lacerations he suffered in the fall.

The North Carolina personal injury lawyers with HensonFuerst Injury Lawyers say that dangerous escalators might be considered North Carolina defective products, and the operators of escalators have a responsibility to ensure the safety of everyone on the premises.
