Attorney Thomas Henson Jr. Contributes to Important Brochure Outlining the Effects, Symptoms and Long-Term Impact of Concussions

Concussions and Traumatic Brain Injuries can have severe, long-lasting effects. At Henson Fuerst, we have seen the devastating impact of these injuries and we want to do our part to provide assistance and resources to victims of brain injuries as well as their families.

Activities such as biking and playing organized sports are a great way for kids to stay fit and healthy, but they also carry risk of concussions and head injuries. It is extremely important that parents and teachers are able to recognize the symptoms of a concussion right away so they can seek immediate medical attention in the event of an accident or injury.

The NC Brain Injury Advisory Council has created a brochure to educate parents on not only the signs and symptoms of a serious head injury, but also what to expect when your child goes back to school after suffering a concussion.

Below are some of the most common signs and symptoms of a concussion. If your child exhibits any of the following behaviors following a fall or any type of impact to the head, seek medical attention right away:

  • Appears dazed or stunned
  • Confusion
  • Trouble thinking clearly or answering questions
  • Difficulty recalling events prior to or after the hit, bump or fall
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Loss of consciousness (even briefly)
  • Behavioral or personality changes
  • Lapses in memory
  • Unsteady on their feet
